Description
High Porosity Cocos combines the properties of ATAMI’s coconut substrate with those of perlite to increase the aeration of the substrate. ATAMI coconut is known to be very clean and low in harmful salts, while also containing balanced fertilization. To achieve this, the coconut is ripened, washed, buffered, and lightly fertilized.
Perlite is an amorphous rock that has formed during volcanic eruptions. It is worked at high temperature so that it expands. Similar to what happens with popcorn, when exposed to high temperatures, the perlite expands and acquires a porous structure about twenty times its original size. By mixing this pearlite with the substrate, the volume of the substrate increases considerably.
Due to the addition of perlite to the coconut, the product reaches an air percentage of approximately 30%. Air availability is essential for root development. Plants require oxygen to “burn” sugars and use them for energy. By using this energy, the root system expands and develops further.
